A group of scientists faced the harsh winter of the Chinese part of the Tibet to collect samples from deep layers of Ice. They found 33 different viruses, which they say are more than 15 years old.
Of this total, 29 were unknown.

They also analyzed the material to understand the effects of climate change, in addition to searching for gases, bacteria and viruses present over the past few centuries.

Although it sounds scary, the discovery of ancestral viruses is relatively common in research in places like glaciers. Extreme cold conserves many microorganisms that offer precious clues for studies on the development of life on the planet Land.

The discovery in Tibet could help scientists understand how viruses have evolved over time, and more details of this research are expected to be released soon. We keep an eye out!
