Apple took advantage of the beginning of Tuesday (14) to announce the launch of the new iPhone 13 models, but the apple company decided to take a ride on the news to update its catalog of models available to the Brazilian public. The change affects the iPhones 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, which are no longer marketed by the company.
The removal of these two top-of-the-line phones is valid for both Brazil and the rest of the world and is not unexpected, as Apple tends to remove some models and it itself followed this path when it launched the last generation iPhones, in October 2020.
Even with the departure of some devices released last year, Apple has kept the iPhone 12 on the shelves. The good news is that it has become cheaper, from costing R$ 7.999 to reach R$ 6.499 as of this week – a reduction of 18,75%.
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max changed the meaning of the suffix
Apple began dividing its smartphones between Pro and more models without this suffix with the iPhone 11, but few differences lived up to the name that tends to be understood as “Professional”. This scenario has changed on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.
They were Apple's first smartphones with something extra besides the high price and more robust construction material. The first change is in the extra sensor for measuring distance, the LiDAR. It allows better results for portrait mode, but it can also be used to scan the environment to project images in augmented reality with greater precision. Some apps use this extra component for various purposes.
Another unique feature of these more expensive models is the presence of Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second, against half that amount on the simplest iPhone 12s. Still on filming, the user only finds the 12-bit image capture on iPhones 10 Pro and Pro Max, considerably increasing the amount of colors registered by the sensors.
It is still possible to buy the iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max
If you want to take advantage of the generation transition moment to buy the iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you better hurry. Apple has already removed the devices from its official store, but it may still appear in stock at some retailers, or within carriers.
