Google will no longer allow advertisers, publishers and even influencers YouTubers monetize videos and content that deny the existence of climate change. THE platform of search detailed the changes in a document, this last Thursday (7).

“Today, we are announcing a new monetization policy for Google's advertisers, publishers and YouTube creators that will ban ads and monetization of content that contradicts the well-established scientific consensus on the existence and causes of climate change,” said the Google team .


According to the company, “this includes content that refers to climate change as a hoax or fraud, claims that deny that long-term trends show that the global climate is warming, and claims that deny that greenhouse gas emissions or human activity contribute to climate change.”

Google has also stated that it will use a series of tools automated and human analytics to validate the policy: “In evaluating content against this new policy, we will carefully examine the context in which claims are made, differentiating between content that asserts a false statement as fact and content that reports or discusses that statement”. 

Ads will still be allowed on climate topics, public debates on climate policy and research, for example, according to Google.

In this way, the increased action against deniers of the existence of climate change demonstrates the second major change in the policy of misinformation Of google. The decision comes a week after YouTube banned fake news about vaccines and so follows the new features aimed at helping people.
